New Addition to the AT-AT Driver Collection

It’s not often these days that I get to add something new to my AT-AT Driver collection but I recently spotted a carded variation that I didn’t have, a Power of the Force 2 card with a Japanese language sticker on the back.

The Power of the Force 2 line ran from 1995 until the end of 1999 and included several pack-in pieces towards the end. The AT-AT Driver was released on a Freeze Frame card, which included a slide with a scene from The Empire Strikes Back. While some countries had their own unique cards with multiple languages on them, this card is a standard US release with a sticker added to the bottom with Japanese writing on it.

I didn’t try to find a translator program to decode the text on the sticker but some of it looks like the standard corporate disclaimers and such. The Freeze Frame cards also included information for mail-away macrobinoculars and two exclusive Freeze Frames but I don’t believe that offer was available outside the US.

Having been a character collector for over 15 years, it’s rare that older variations like this pop up that I hadn’t seen before but, as with collecting vintage Kenner figures, you never know what you may find if you look hard enough or long enough.
