Topps Jedi Legacy Box Break

Topps Star Wars Jedi LegacyLast Friday, our box of Topps Jedi Legacy cards arrived and after a couple hours of opening packages and sorting, we have to say that this is a pretty fun set.

The base set has 90 cards, there are two levels of common chases, four levels of parallels and then more rare relic and autograph chases.

The numbering scheme for the base set is different than normal.  Since the concept of the set is the Legacy of Anakin and Luke Skywalker, each number has two cards with either an “A” or “L” designation.  There are 45 numbered A and L cards to total up to 90.

This set is also different than previous releases in that every box has two guaranteed “hits,” with one being a Film Cel relic and the second being one of several different chases.

The parallels are also more common this time around with each pack containing one card, mostly Blue, but replacing Blue with the harder to find Magenta, Green or Gold.  Each pack also contains either a Connections or Influences chase card.

Our box produced 1 complete base set and approximately 50 doubles.  We pulled a Film Cel relic and an autograph of Bonnie Piesse.  There were 19 Blue, 4 Magenta and 1 Green parallels and 2 The Circle is Now Complete die-cut chase cards.  The Connections and Influences cards came in at 12 each.  That all lines up well with the ratios published by Topps.

The Circle is Now Complete chase set is also a new concept for Jedi Legacy.  There are 12 cards and each one will have a unique code on the back.  Once you collect 12 cards, forming your circle, you can register the codes with Topps and they will send you a round center piece to complete the set.

Topps, through Non-Sport Update magazine, released the first ever Star Wars costume/prop relic card at the Chicagoland Entertainment Collectors’ Expo back in September 2010.  Topps Jedi Legacy, however, is the first wide release set to include relic cards.  There are three levels, the more common includes Ewok fur while the two harder to find cards have either a piece of the sail from Jabba’s Barge or fur from Chewbacca’s costume.

Jedi Legacy does not include any sketch cards but there are printing plates for both the common and chase cards.

Box prices for Jedi Legacy run about $80 and the set is a hobby exclusive so you won’t see these at Target or Toys-R-Us.  The counts and ratios below are accurate to what’s printed on the packs.

* The Print Plates for the base set were listed as 1,175 on the packs so we’re not sure if that’s 1:1,175 or 1:175.  We looked for additional information but as of this writing, were unable to clarify this number.
