Hasbro 40th Anniversary Black Series Plans Clarified With Press Release
As a followup to yesterday’s Toy Fair presentation, we have the full press release from Hasbro on how the Black Series 40th Anniversary figures will be released.
The first wave of carded 6″ figures will include Han Solo, Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and R2-D2. They’ll be arriving in the next couple of months. HasbroToyShop.com put up pre-orders for the figures yesterday but they’re showing as sold out at this point. The carded figures will be available at most major retailers for $19.99.
Wave two will include Chewbacca, C-3po, Death Star Trooper, Tusken Raider, Jawa, and Stormtrooper and will be available later in the spring. They will also be $19.99 and available to all retailers.
The 40th Anniversary Legacy Pack which is $39.99 will also be available at most retail outlets later in the spring. This set comes in packaging that’s reminiscent of the vintage Kenner Early Bird set. Included in the Legacy pack is a display stand, 2-sided cardboard back, and a carded 40th Anniversary Darth Vader. This seems to be the only way the carded Darth Vader will be available. However, this version of Darth Vader, which is the new sculpt shown at New York Comic Con last October, will also be available boxed at a later time.
Two exclusive carded 40th Anniversary figures will be available. First, Luke Skywalker: X-Wing Pilot will be on a foil card back and will be exclusive to Star Wars Celebration Orlando in April. No details on how the sales of the figure will be handled at this time. The second is R5-D4, on the same style card as the retail figures, and exclusive to Entertainment Earth GameStop and ThinkGeek*. Pricing hasn’t been released for either exclusive and no pre-order date for R5-D4 has been released.
If you’re not a fan of the 6″ line, or are looking for an alternative, the Black Series 3.75″ Titanium Series figures will be available for $14.99 each. The five figures, Darth Vader, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia, will be sold individually at most major retailers. They each include a display stand with reversible backdrop featuring a foil poster on one side and a movie scene graphic on the other. The display stands can be connected to make a larger display.
