Celebration Anaheim: Collectibles Update Panel – Sideshow
During setup on Wednesday night, we were able to see a sneak peek of what Sideshow would be announcing during Anita Castellar’s panel on Thursday morning and it was really hard not to spoil the surprise.
That surprise; not only will they be doing 1:5 scale statues based on Ralph McQuarrie’s concept artwork, there will also be a line of 1:6 scale figures. The first tease at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim was Darth Vader. On display was a prototype body and two interchangeable head sculpts based on early drawings.
A prototype of the 1:5 scale McQuarrie Stormtrooper was at the booth and during Thursday’s panel a Boba Fett was also announced. In the 1:6 scale we can look forward to R5-D4 and a Jawa 2-pack which should be out in early 2016. The Jawas feature light-up eyes and R4-D4 will have a bad motivator just as he did in the movie. R5-D4 looks to build on the excellent R2-D2 figure and looked beautiful.
If you like exclusives, Sideshow did have the new Hot Toys Spacetrooper on display but wasn’t available to buy, you still had to order online.
Sideshow also had a large display featuring the R2-ME2 droids that were customized by artists.
During the panel on Thursday, a question was asked if the Mythos line of statues would be continuing. It will not at this time, the focus is shifting to the Ralph McQuarrie concept statue line for now.
