Hasbro Releases New Jurassic Park Toys at Toys-R-Us
April marks the 20th anniversary of Jurassic Park and the film will be released to theaters in its new 3D format. To celebrate, Hasbro is releasing four lines of Jurassic Park toys which will be exclusive to Toys-R-Us. There have been a few reports of these sets being out already, but if you haven’t seen them don’t panic, they’re scheduled for an April release.
The packaging for all the lines will include information about the dinosaurs, including speed, strength and special abilities. The Dino Trackers and Dino Showdown sets will include action figures alongside the dinosaurs while Dino Growlers feature sound effets and “specialized attacking action.” The three figures in the Trackers line are new sculpts and have limited articulation while the two figures in the Showdown sets feature new head sculpts and existing bodies from the G.I. Joe line of toys. Prices range from $7.99 to $24.99 for the larger sets.
Early finds of the Showdown sets included cross-sell photos on the back of the boxes that were covered with tape. Thanks to Jason at Grape Soda, who posted photos of the box, it looks like there were plans for a third release in both the Growlers and Showdown lines. The Growlers toy is a Triceratops while the Showdown line had a Stegosaurus Strike set.
Based on prototypes listed on eBay and word from one of the toy designers, there was also a Carnotaurus dino worked up for the Showdown line along with a figure based on the G.I. Joe Flash and Grand Slam sculpt. Another figure, sporting Roadblock’s Renegades body with a new head and excellent tattoo paint apps, has been listed on eBay on and off since, at least, early 2012.
Here’s a quick rundown of the lines, prices and features:
