Clone Wars Line Information
The Clone Wars line debuted on July 26, 2008 with a Midnight Madness event at Toys-R-Us stores around the country. The first wave included eight new action figures in the design of the new animated television show. The card backs and assortment numbers have changed, but the line is still in production.
First Day of Issue
The July 26, 2008 launch of the Clone Wars, new Saga Legends and The Legacy Collection lines included a First Day of Issue promotion. The promotion applied to the first wave of both The Clone Wars and The Legacy Collection action figures. Along with a foil sticker on the bubble, a foil logo was also included on the card.
The First Day of Issue stickers and foil cards were short packed in the cases alongside cards without the offer.
Assortment 87638
The first card back was blue and white and shaped like Captain Rex’s helmet. Hasbro released five waves of Clone Wars figures on the Captain Rex packaging and included 27 figures before ending in early 2009. The assortment number stayed the same but the card backs changed to red and white and went to a more generic shape with die cuts.
The red and white packaging also stared over with the numbering sequence. Six waves were released in 2009 and three more in early 2010.
Assortment 94736
In early 2010, Hasbro changed the packaging to a darker blue coloring which they called Shadow of the Dark Side. The Clone Wars and Saga Legends figures introduced the new Galactic Battle Game where each figure included a silver figure stand, game card and blue die. The numbering scheme stared over and six waves were released. An additional six waves were released in 2011 before ending with 65 figures.
Assortment 37290
At the beginning of 2012, the Clone Wars line adopted the new Darth Maul Movie Heroes packaging and started over the numbering scheme. The Galactic Battles game was updated with a new style for the artwork on the cards, a tan figure stand and black die.
Four waves were scheduled with approximately 19 figure releases for the year. As of September 2012, only the first three waves had been releases with the third wave, which included a new Commander Wolffe and Ahsoka Tano in her scuba gear, was very scarce.
Mail-Aways
Captain Rex
In 2008, to promote the new Clone Wars line, a mail away offer for a Captain Rex figure was promoted with a sticker on Saga Legends action figures. Included with the figures was a form to fill out and mail in along with barcodes from packaged action figures and a check to cover shipping. Unfortunately, the offer was delayed and the Rex figures barely made it out before the debut of the regular release Rex figure in Wave 1 of the Clone Wars Figures.
Nahdar Vebb
Nahdar Vebb was the second Clone Wars mail-away offer and took place in 2010. Stickers promoting the offer could be found on Clone Wars and The Legacy Collection cards. Nahdar Vebb hasn’t been offered in any other format since the mail-away offer.
Sergeant Bric
The third mail-away offer for The Clone Wars was for Sergeant Bric and a Galactic Battle Mat. The offer ran late in 2010 and into 2011 but was not promoted with a bubble sticker.
There were two different inserts, one that had a picture of Sergeant Bric on it and one that just mentioned the Galactic Battle Mat. The Mat is vinyl and printed on one side is a scene that can be used to stage action figures when playing the Galactic Battles game. The other side has clear pockets with flaps that can be used as a carrying case for action figures and their game cards.
Toys-R-Us 2-Packs
In December 2012, Toys-R-Us offered several 2-packs for the holidays. The sets included several rather hard to find vehicles including the Republic AV-7 Mobile Cannon and Jedi Turbo Speeder. The most desirable ship included in the sets was the Mandalorian Assault Transport. Although reports of this showing up at retail by itself in the US, for most, this was the only way it was available without ordering online. The packs included:
Jedi Turbo Speeder & Plo Koon’s Jedi Starfighter
Hyena Bomber & Anakin’s Jedi Starfighter
Kit Fisto and Anakin Skywalker’s Jedi Starfighters
Anakin’s Jedi Starfighter & Mandalorian Assault Transport
Republic AV-7 Mobile Cannon & Obi-Wan’s Jedi Starfighter
At one point, Toysrus.com listed a set that included Luke Skywalker’s Snowspeedr and Obi-Wan’s Jedi Starfighter. As of this update, we haven’t seen any evidence that this set actually exists.
