Movie Heroes Information
Movie Heroes
The Movie Heroes line replaced the Saga Legends line of figures. It launched on January 30, 2012 in support of the February theatrical release of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace in theaters. The first two waves were heavy on TPM figures before the line expanded to included characters from all six films in the Saga.
Movie Heroes also introduced a new packaging look featuring Darth Maul. Like the Shadows of the Dark Side packaging before it, the Movie Heroes packaging could be found on the Movie Heroes line, Clone Wars and most Battle Packs, vehicles, role play and other items. The Vintage Collection, and specially packaged Vintage Collection vehicles, continued to use the Kenner style packaging.
Discover the Force
Walmart had an exclusive line of 12 action figures released in January 2012 and referred to as “Discover the Force.” The line featured The Phantom Menace action figures, two Battle Packs and a creature/vehicle set. The packaging used the new Movie Heroes packaging art and also included 3D images which could be viewed with the included 3D glasses.
Each Discover the Force toy included the advertising, “1 of 17 Awesome 3-D Images!” The 17 items were the 12 figures, 2 battle packs, 2 vehicle/creature sets and an exclusive Qui-Gon Jinn Ultimate FX Lightsaber.
Galactic Battle Game
Movie Heroes Stand & Dice
Discover the Force Stand & Dice
With the January 2012 launch of the Movie Heroes line, the Galactic Battle Game received an upgrade. The cards had full character art, the dice were black with gold highlights and the stands were tan in color.
The Discover the Force wave of Walmart exclusives included a black stand but the dice were the same as the Move Heroes line and the artwork on the game cards was in a similar style.
* Wave 4
As of December 2012, Wave 4 had not been solicited in the US but was available in Europe on multi-language cards.
At Toy Fair 2013, Hasbro announced that this wave would not be available in the US and that it was now a European exclusive release.
Anakin Skywalker, Sandtrooper and the Battle Droid, which were new in Wave 4, were also scheduled to be packed on the 2013 Yoda packaging. However, these were not released in the US either and were only made available in Europe. Those three, along with MH24 Boba Fett, were never released in the US on single cards.
Vehicles
Class I Fleet Vehicles
The Class I Fleet Vehicles originally started as Clone Wars only and they can be found in the Clone Wars Checklist. With the Yavin Cart set at Toys-R-Us and the first wave of 2012 releases, Hasbro started mixing Clone Wars sets with Saga releases. Wave 1 was dedicated to Saga while subsequent cases mixed W1 repacks with new Clone Wars vehicles.
Class II Attack Vehicles
Class II Assault Vehicles have been in mixed waves since 2008 and will continue to be split between the Clone Wars Checklist and the appropriate Saga Checklist for the current line.
The final wave of Darth Maul packaged Class II vehicles, including the brand new Naboo Starfighter and repaints of the Republic Fighter Tank and Anakin’s Jedi Starfighter, were not released at major retail stores in the US. They were released in Europe and possibly in some of the Asian markets. The one exception was discounter Tuesday Morning, which offered up limited amounts of the wave at $14.99 each.
Online retailers, including Amazon, did have a stock of the wave, mostly sold by the case.
