Celebration VI Pin and Button Collecting
I posted the patches that I was able to pick up at Celebration VI and now for the pins and buttons.
It’s become a fun chase at Celebrations to track down as many fan made buttons and pins as possible and this year was a banner year. I was able to find only a fraction of the swag that was available but still came away with some really nice items including the R2-D2 and Jawa pins from Mike R. and Jason W. respectively.
Brian, who is working on a documentary about toys, offered up the excellent Power Droid themed pin and “Micro” Rob, who is working on a book about the Micro Collection, had a 30th Anniversary pin celebrating the anniversary of the short lived toy line from Kenner. Finally, the Yoda had from Martin rounded out the pin scores for the weekend.
On the button front, I came in a distant last to my friend John A. who had nearly three full laynards of pins and buttons by Friday night! Still, I managed to capture Broc’s Kenner Gooney Bird, fellow PSWCS member Brad’s set of Chewbacca buttons and Andy’s Headman. Evarei’s “Utini Martini” and Mattias’ “Join the Vintage Party” buttons were put to good use at the ‘Chive Cast party Thursday night and no collection would be complete without Derek’s Uncle Gundy button. I also met fellow AT-AT Driver collector, Daniel, and scored his excellent nod to the Driver and AT-AT Commander button. Princess Mags offered up some cool Lego minifigure themed buttons and Obi-Wan came home on my lanyard.
When you think about it, it’s amazing that so many fans can get together to create so many interesting and imaginative collectibles for Celebration. Every show there will be a collectible item from the show store or a license holder like Hasbro that I want but it’s the cool freebies that other fans create that are some of the most memorable.
