Celebration Europe Art Previews Posted
We haven’t been covering a lot of announcements for Celebration Europe II but the just-announced Art Show prints grabbed our attention. This is always one of our favorite aspects of Celebration as it’s fun to see what the talented artists come up with.
The roster for Celebration Europe includes quite a few familiar names, including Jerry Vanderstelt, Brian Rood, Chris Trevas and Tsuneo Sanda, while introducing a few newcomers such as Shea Standefer, Paul Allan Ballard and Lin Zy.
Vanderstelt’s work is almost always a home run but Rood’s “Homecoming” and Trevas’ “Execution Order” have interesting subject matter. Two favorites from this announcement include Drew Baker’s “Shade” and Malcolm Tween’s currently untitled Endor piece (pictured above).
Tween’s “Exit Echo Base” print was our personal favorite from Celebration V and he was missed at last year’s show. It’s good to see him back.
Overall, the artwork for Celebration Europe seems to be a good mix. The previous two US Celebrations featured a lot of work that was very derivative not only of other prints available at the same show but of the artist’s previous Celebration pieces. While we love to see what guys like Rood and Trevas come up with, having new artists helps keep things fresh and including European artists is an excellent move. Still, we wouldn’t mind seeing previous Celebration artists such as Terese Nielsen and Han Jennsen back.
