The Pennsylvania Star Wars Collecting Society (http://pswcs.com) is pleased to announce that we will be selling a limited-edition charity medallion at Celebration VI to benefit Mid-Atlantic Burn Camp. Mid-Atlantic Burn Camp is an organization that offers exciting programs to young burn survivors. These programs provide young burn survivors an opportunity to meet each other so that they will know that they are not alone in the world and that they can still have dreams and goals. These children were burned and suddenly, painfully, and irreversibly had their lives changed. These young burn survivors now have scars that cannot be erased with time or surgery. In our society, we place a heavy emphasis on beauty and outward appearance and as a burn survivor it is extremely difficult to fit in.
Mid-Atlantic Burn Camp provides programs to support the physical, psychological, and social needs of young burn survivors. Our primary program is a weeklong, residential summer camp in the mountains of Virginia for young burn survivors ages 8-18. Here the children get to do all kinds of great summer camp activities like swimming, horseback riding, arts and crafts, hiking, and sports. The teenagers also participate in adventure activities such as rock climbing, caving and canoeing. All these programs allow the kids to be kids again and to find that just because their skin is scarred that they can still have fun and do great things. In addition to our summer camp, Mid-Atlantic Burn Camp has a Winter Camp program just for teens, a young adult program and a post high school scholarship fund.
There is no charge to any camper for participation in our programs. Our entirely all volunteer, nonprofit organization relies entirely on contributions. By purchasing this year’s Star Wars coin you can help support these young burn survivors and help them learn to live happy and productive lives.
