Hasbro Preliminary 2012 Financial Results
Hasbro will hold a conference call on February 7, 2013 to reveal more details on their 2012 financial results, but a preliminary look was released today.
Outside of the details on last year’s performance, the interesting piece of information may be on their 2013 initiatives. According to the report, Hasbro will look to reduce expenses by “including an approximate 10% reduction in workforce, facility consolidation and process improvements.”
The reduction in workforce as well as facility consolidation stand out as moves that could impact the toy lines we see going forward. Early looks at some 2013 action figures, Spider-Man and the new Iron Man 3 action figures, for example, show reduced articulation which makes them easier to assemble. Could we see similar moves in the Star Wars lines? Fewer points of articulation, fewer paint apps and more toys based on existing molds could fit in with a smaller, streamlined production chain.
With the conference call on February 7th and Hasbro’s New York Toy Fair event on February 9th, we may have more information on this soon.
