Richard Le Parmentier Passes Away

It was very sad to hear yesterday that actor Richard Le Parmentier had passed away at the age of 66.  Best known to fellow Star Wars fnas as Admiral Motti, who barely escaped Vader’s wrath in A New Hope, Mr. Le Parmentier appeared in over 30 projects during his career, including televisions series and films such as Who Framed Roger RabbitSuperman II, and Octopussy.

Richard LeParmentier - Admiral Motti I had the opportunity to meet Mr. Le Parmentier on several occasions at conventions and he was always gracious and took time to speak with all of his fans.  He had an excellent sense of humor and everyone left their meeting with a smile on their face.  He was a  true gentleman.

Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, Mr. Le Parmentier was a staple at conventions around the country, including the Steel City Con in Monroeville, PA, a suburb of Pitt.  Back in 2011, several members of the Pennsylvania Star Wars Collecting Society had the opportunity to take Mr. Le Parmentier out for a beer and, as you can see by the photo; all smiles.

We’ll miss seeing him at conventions but thank him for all the fond memories.

PSWCS Charity Medallion Sells Out!

Mid-Atlantic Burn CampThe Pennsylvania Star Wars Collecting Society (PSWCS) has sold out of their 2012 charity medallions!  The medallion, featuring Yoda, was first offered during Star Wars Celebration VI to raise money for the Mid-Atlantic Burn Camp.  Sales of leftover medallions were offered online but as of this week, all 1000 pieces are sold out.  The final donation to the Mid-Atlantic Burn Camp will be $6,167.36.

This marks the forth successful fundraiser by the Club, previously raising money for Operation Ward 57, Canine Corps, and Operation Troop Appreciation.  The Operation Troop Appreciation medallion, featuring Princess Leia, raised over $6,900 and sold out of its run during Celebration VI.

The PSWCS has plans to offer additional medallions in the future, and we’re hoping to have some exciting announcements surrounding those plans later in the year.

The Pennsylvania Star Wars Collecting Society (http://pswcs.com) is pleased to announce that we will be selling a limited-edition charity medallion at Celebration VI to benefit Mid-Atlantic Burn Camp. This medallion, featuring an image of Yoda, was produced in a one-time run of 1000 pieces and will be available at a cost of $10 per medallion.

Mid-Atlantic Burn Camp is an organization that offers exciting programs to young burn survivors. These programs provide young burn survivors an opportunity to meet each other so that they will know that they are not alone in the world and that they can still have dreams and goals. These children were burned and suddenly, painfully, and irreversibly had their lives changed. These young burn survivors now have scars that cannot be erased with time or surgery. In our society, we place a heavy emphasis on beauty and outward appearance and as a burn survivor it is extremely difficult to fit in.

Mid-Atlantic Burn Camp provides programs to support the physical, psychological, and social needs of young burn survivors. Our primary program is a weeklong, residential summer camp in the mountains of Virginia for young burn survivors ages 8-18. Here the children get to do all kinds of great summer camp activities like swimming, horseback riding, arts and crafts, hiking, and sports. The teenagers also participate in adventure activities such as rock climbing, caving and canoeing. All these programs allow the kids to be kids again and to find that just because their skin is scarred that they can still have fun and do great things. In addition to our summer camp, Mid-Atlantic Burn Camp has a Winter Camp program just for teens, a young adult program and a post high school scholarship fund.

There is no charge to any camper for participation in our programs. Our entirely all volunteer, nonprofit organization relies entirely on contributions. By purchasing this year’s Star Wars coin you can help support these young burn survivors and help them learn to live happy and productive lives.
