Kotobukiya showed off a prototype for their new ARTFX+ General Grievous statue at this year’s Toy Fair event, and now they’ve released final production photos and a press release.  The statue, which is now available for pre-order, will cost between $85 and $90 ($84.99 from Razor’s Edge Collectibles) depending on where you pick him up.

The 1/10 scale statue is scheduled for a November release.  As we said back in February, this may be one of the best representations of the General since Sideshow issued their 1:4 scale Premium Format statue.  Photos and press release below.

Star Wars General Grievous ARTFX+ Statue

A Kotobukiya Japanese import! The incredible Star Wars ARTFX+ lineup has already featured some of the most iconic heroes and villains from the Star Wars films, and now it returns to the final prequel to present the Supreme Commander of the Separatist droid army, General Grievous! A powerful alien cyborg with multiple arms and a mastery of the lightsaber, Grievous is one of the greatest threats the Jedi and the Republic have ever faced.

A vicious alien warlord made even more powerful by a cyborg body, General Grievous appears in full attack mode, advancing forward with his body hunched over and stolen Jedi lightsabers extended at his sides. Just like in Revenge of the Sith, this version of the Droid Commander has lots of tricks up his sleeves. Alternate parts let you display him with either two arms or four, and in either version he can also wear his long, flowing cape! Grievous’ cyborg body is intricately detailed in all of its skeleton-like glory, and his cruel eyes leer at you from within his skull shaped head. Like other ARTFX+ statues the commander has magnets in his feet for extra stability on his included display base.

ARTFX+ Statues are fun-to-assemble pre-painted snap-fit kits that can be easily put together in seconds without glue or modeling skill. General Grievous stands over 6 ½ inches tall (1/10th scale) and looks great displayed alongside other Star Wars statues!

Available November 2013.

Kotobukiya Star Wars Business Card HoldersKotobukiya announced last year that they would be releasing metal business card holders featuring Han Solo in Carbonite and R2-D2 designs.  Now, Big Bad Toy Store has pre-orders up for three new designs: Stormtrooper, Darth Vader and C-3PO.

We’re not sure if these were announced previously, but we double-checked our Celebration VI, New York Comic Con and Toy Fair photos and didn’t see them.  All three are priced at $26.99 from BBTS, as are the Han Solo and R2-D2 releases, and are listed with a September 2013 release.

Kotobukiya has come a long way from the early vinyl model kits they started with, now producing some of the more interesting statue collectibles of the Star Wars property.  But they also have a huge presence in the Marvel and DC Comics field and are no strangers to video game properties.

At Toy Fair they teased a new General Grievous ARTFX+ Statue that could possibly be the best version of him since Sideshow’s incredible Premium Format statue.  The detail looks really good on the prototype they showed, and with paint and final details, could be a home run.

Also on display was their new Jango Fett statue and his son, Boba.  Darth Vader, the Royal Guards and a contingent of Stormtroopers joined them.

Kotobukiya’s first Bishoujo Star Wars statue is out now, Jaina Solo, and Mara Jade is next on their list.  During Joe’s Q&A with Koto, they mentioned Leia was next on their list but not exactly what version, only that it won’t be her Return of the Jedi bikini.

Also, if you’ve seen their excellent Han in Carbonite business card holder, good news, it should be coming to the U.S. market.

Comics and game fans take note, Koto was showing off a prototype for a Kitty Pryde Bishoujo statue, coming in June, and artwork for Black Canary, due in the 3rd quarter.

Last week was the release of the new Visceral Games and Electronic Arts game, “Dead Space 3,” and Kotobukiya will soon have a statue available of the main character, Isaac Clarke.  The 12″ tall statue features lights and will be out in June.

Kotobukiya Booth at New York Comic ConKotobukiya brought a large booth to New York Comic Con this year, showing off Star Wars, Marvel, Mass Effect, DC and other licenses.  Their Bishoujo Statue line always impresses but I think the R2-D2 and Han Solo in Carbonite business card holders.

They were also showing off the larger deluxe silicon ice trays of the Millennium Falcon, Han in Carbonite and R2-D2.

We didn’t photograph them, but AFX was also offering a couple of exclusive sets of Thundercats Minimates.

Prior to the Hasbro panel, a combined panel was held for Kotobukiya, Gentle Giant and Sideshow.

Nothing much new was announced by Gentle Giant, all their announcements were made a their booth, but we did find out that this year’s Holiday Bust will be Jar Jar Binks sporting a Santa hat and some festive lights.

Kotobukiya

Koto is continuing their successful chopsticks line with new light-up releases and a new Death Star ice tray.

ArtFX fans can look forward to a Return of the Jedi Boba Fett ($49.99) with interchangeable arms while trooper fans should be interested in the Royal Guard 2-pack ($64.99) Jango Fett is scheduled for a fall 2013 release. With a limited edition of 500 pieces, the Celebration VI exclusive will be R2-A6. He’ll include a coin and retail for $29.99.

The Jaina Solo Bishoujo statue was announced last fall, a proto is showing in their booth, and now we know that she’ll be joined by Mara Jade.

Sideshow

The biggest reveal is for a new Premium Format Chewbacca that will stand approximately 22″ tall!

The only other reveal that we didn’t know about until today is the new life-size Darth Vader statue. It’s now being shown in their booth at SDCC and was announced during the presentation.

During a question and answer portion of the presentation, it was hinted that we can expect an AT-AT Driver and TIE Fighter Pilot along with more The Old Republic and other video game characters. Bastila Shan, specifically, was name checked.

eFX

eFX will continue with more new lightsabers, including a Starkiller release from The Force Unleashed. More Reveal sabers are coming and we’ll see a return of the .45 scale lightsabers which will now be sporting electronics.

In the Legend line, look for a new Darth Maul lightsaber that was cast from the original prop. A Scout Trooper helmet will be joining the Legend line as well.

Finally, a The Empire Strikes Back Yoda puppet is in the works and so is a Save 1 FX model.

Celebration VI

After hearing about Hasbro skipping Celebration as far as exclusives goes, it was nice to see that there will still be some fun things available this year. These items will probably be available in the store but we’ll have more info on that later.

We’ll see a return of the tin signs this year and they’ll feature art from Mark Mancini. His work will also feature on shirts and prints.

Comic Images is bringing a hobby horse with a twist; it will feature a tauntaun head! Think Geek brings a Gamorrean Guard piggy bank and we’ll see a Patrick Nagel-style calendar and beach towel. Gentle Giant will have a smaller version of their new AT-AT book ends available for Celebration.

Finally, the store will have 4 mini statues with one available each day. The statues were slated to be ShopStarWars.com exclusives and will include Darth Bane, Mara Jade, Zombie Trooper and Quinlan Vos. We think that these are the statues that were shown at Celebration V in the SSW booth but didn’t make it into production before the store went out of business.
