New Angry Birds Products at Target

There are so many new Star Wars themed Angry Birds items coming out that it’s hard to keep track of them all.  But last night, at Target, we spotted several new products that are kind of fun.

First is a Chewbacca bird bathmat that’s about 24″ in diameter.  Next up are two towels; Chewbacca shows up again as a hooded poncho and there’s also a Luke Skywalker X-Wing Pilot bird hooded wrap.  Both are $14.99 but we missed the price on the bath mat.

We found these on an end cap by the bed and bath section where they also had some of the plush pillows and a few other items, like throws and bedding.

After the debut last fall of Hasbro’s new Angry Birds line of games, a new set has been spotted at retail; Millennium Falcon Bounce Game.

Priced at about $23, we spotted a copy of it at Walmart in the past week.  When the first announcement of the Angry Birds line was made there was a Millennium Falcon Heroes Koosh refill 3-pack with Leia, Han and Chewbacca birds which makes a little more sense now.

If these aren’t in your local stores yet, they probably will be soon with the holidays over, stores going through resets and inventory.

Star Wars Collecting: The Best and Worst of 2012

Star Wars Collecting Best and Worst LogoLet’s face it, from a collecting standpoint, 2012 was one of the worst years of the modern hobby.  Hasbro had a terrible time getting product to store shelves, the Clone Wars line was nearly abandoned and the glut of The Phantom Menace product echoed 1999.

Still, 2012 brought the 3D release of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace to theaters, we partied at Star Wars Celebration VI in Orlando, Florida, The Clone Wars is enjoying it’s fifth season on Cartoon Network and we had the huge surprise of Disney announcing its purchase of Lucasfilm.

It depends on how you look at things, when picking the Best and Worst, and even with the problems collectors faced this year, it’s hard to deny that Hasbro did have some ambitious offerings this year, Gentle Giant surprised us, Sideshow continues to roll, Lego is in good shape and we now have 2015 to look forward to as that’s when Disney’s news trilogy of Star Wars films is set to launch.

Editor’s Update

Most of this article had been written before Hasbro’s announcement that they’d extend the release of Vintage Collection figures into 2013.  That doesn’t let them off the hook on the terrible distribution we saw in 2012 but it does give hope that collectors will have an additional shot at some excellent toys.  However, it doesn’t fix the problem with the Naboo Starfighter and, as of now, doesn’t bode well for the 2013 Legacy Collection/Droid Factory releases that were shown off at Celebration.  It’s possible that line has been pushed to Fall but there’s also speculation that it’s been cancelled altogether with the figures either going into an as yet unannounced Vintage Collection expansion or being abandoned altogether in favor of repacks and repaints allowing Hasbro to sit in a holding pattern until things are sorted with the Disney buyout of Lucasfilm and the new movie slated for 2015.

Hasbro Star Wars Angry Birds AT-AT Attack Game

A teaser image was posted yesterday with an announcement scheduled for Monday, but  the news is breaking early; Star Wars is crossing over with Angry Birds!

Paul over at the Idle Hands blog, dropped some photos and information earlier today which shows some of what we can expect.  Hasbro will be offering up a Death Star Jenga set, AT-AT Attack Battle Game and an Early Angry Birds Figure Pack which includes Chewbacca, Princess Leia, Luke and R2-D2 as Angry Birds characters.

Rubies will be offering up some costumes and there will be some plush toys available also.

Personally, I think I’m too excited for my own good with the fact that the AT-AT Attack game comes with an AT-AT Driver pig!  The official reveal will be Monday at Toy-R-Us Times Square but you can head over to the Idle Hands blog now and see some photos and check out the info that Paul posted.
