Star Wars Theme Prominent in Lego 2015 Annual Report

Lego posted their 2015 annual report earlier today and the Star Wars theme had a prominent position in the presentation.

The top five best selling themes of the past year included Star Wars along with Duplo, Ninjago, Lego City, and Lego Friends.

The Millennium Falcon from the new The Force Awakens film placed as the number two best selling set of 2015, right behind Elsa’s Sparkling Ice Castle.  The Lego City Police Station came in third followed by Lego Mindstorms EV3 and Lego Friends Heartlake Grand Hotel.

It’s interesting to note that four of the top five sets are in the $100 and over price range. Elsa’s Sparkling Ice Castle is $40 while the top end is the Mindstorms EV3 at $350.  It’s very wide range in pricing as well, and the sets represent a nice cross section of styles and fan bases.

Also included in the report is that Lego sold over 72 billion bricks last year with 675 million tires and 725 million minifigures.  Lego has over 3,600 different elements and they come in over 60 different colors.

Lego is among the top three toy manufacturers with Mattel and Hasbro and looking at the 2016 lineup of sets, they deserve the accolades.
