Legacy Collection Card Back
Legacy Collection

Hasbro announced during their presentation on Friday that they were bringing back the “Legacy Collection” name for the collector oriented Droid Factory line in 2013. Here’s a closer look at the new card back design.

It uses an astromech droid as inspiration and the Droid Factory part will be moved to the front of the card.

Movie Heroes and Clone Wars will use the new Yoda packaging that was announced a couple of months ago in a licensing packet.

Hasbro also released photos of the upcoming exclusives due later this year. Target, K-Mart and Toys-R-Us are all represented but as of now, nothing has been announced for Walmart

As we said last night, the biggest surprise was probably the announcement of the Jocasta Nu figure that’s available for pre-order now from Brian’s Toys.

Prior to the Hasbro panel, a combined panel was held for Kotobukiya, Gentle Giant and Sideshow.

Nothing much new was announced by Gentle Giant, all their announcements were made a their booth, but we did find out that this year’s Holiday Bust will be Jar Jar Binks sporting a Santa hat and some festive lights.

Kotobukiya

Koto is continuing their successful chopsticks line with new light-up releases and a new Death Star ice tray.

ArtFX fans can look forward to a Return of the Jedi Boba Fett ($49.99) with interchangeable arms while trooper fans should be interested in the Royal Guard 2-pack ($64.99) Jango Fett is scheduled for a fall 2013 release. With a limited edition of 500 pieces, the Celebration VI exclusive will be R2-A6. He’ll include a coin and retail for $29.99.

The Jaina Solo Bishoujo statue was announced last fall, a proto is showing in their booth, and now we know that she’ll be joined by Mara Jade.

Sideshow

The biggest reveal is for a new Premium Format Chewbacca that will stand approximately 22″ tall!

The only other reveal that we didn’t know about until today is the new life-size Darth Vader statue. It’s now being shown in their booth at SDCC and was announced during the presentation.

During a question and answer portion of the presentation, it was hinted that we can expect an AT-AT Driver and TIE Fighter Pilot along with more The Old Republic and other video game characters. Bastila Shan, specifically, was name checked.

eFX

eFX will continue with more new lightsabers, including a Starkiller release from The Force Unleashed. More Reveal sabers are coming and we’ll see a return of the .45 scale lightsabers which will now be sporting electronics.

In the Legend line, look for a new Darth Maul lightsaber that was cast from the original prop. A Scout Trooper helmet will be joining the Legend line as well.

Finally, a The Empire Strikes Back Yoda puppet is in the works and so is a Save 1 FX model.

Celebration VI

After hearing about Hasbro skipping Celebration as far as exclusives goes, it was nice to see that there will still be some fun things available this year. These items will probably be available in the store but we’ll have more info on that later.

We’ll see a return of the tin signs this year and they’ll feature art from Mark Mancini. His work will also feature on shirts and prints.

Comic Images is bringing a hobby horse with a twist; it will feature a tauntaun head! Think Geek brings a Gamorrean Guard piggy bank and we’ll see a Patrick Nagel-style calendar and beach towel. Gentle Giant will have a smaller version of their new AT-AT book ends available for Celebration.

Finally, the store will have 4 mini statues with one available each day. The statues were slated to be ShopStarWars.com exclusives and will include Darth Bane, Mara Jade, Zombie Trooper and Quinlan Vos. We think that these are the statues that were shown at Celebration V in the SSW booth but didn’t make it into production before the store went out of business.

Hasbro held their SDCC panel today and made some interesting announcements. The most jarring, however, was the announcement that there will not be a Celebration VI exclusive. Droid Factory, as leaked on Wednesday, is in fact making a comeback and an often requested character is making an exclusive appearance at Brian’s Toys. Below is an outline of the new stuff that was announced today. We’ll be updating and clarifying as additional information becomes available.

The Legacy Collection is making a comeback as the official name for the new collector line. Movie Heroes and Clone Wars will continue but no new product was shown in the presentation. Droid Factory is back with 1 or 2 new figures per wave. They announced “over 30 figures in 2013″ but we need clarification if that’s for the year, only counting new figures or maybe just for spring.

Legacy Collection:

  • Wave 1
    • R2-D2
    • Geonosis Padme
    • Biker Scout
    • TIE Pilot
    • AOTC Anakin Skywalker

12″

Hasbro is bringing out a new line of limited articulation (5 points), 12″ tall figures. They will have their weapons molded to their hands and will be reminiscent of the vintage Kenner line of 12″ figures. The first wave announced include:

  • Darth Vader
  • Anakin Skywalker (ROTS)
  • Clone Trooper (AOTC)
  • Obi-Wan Kenobi (ROTS)

Fighter Pods

Series 2 is available now and there will be a 3rd series available this fall. There are 125 more figures scheduled for 2013 and we’ll see a release of a new rapid fire and reload launchers.

Exclusives

There are a lot of nice, but expensive, exclusives coming later in the year, including the figure we mentioned; Jocasta Nu. Jocasta Nu is available now for pre-order from Brian’s Toys and costs $24.99.

  • Target
  • Darth Maul Returns Battle Pack (December)

During a short question and answer period the Mandalorian Assault Transport was brought up and Hasbro is looking for a way to release it. We should see an announcement of The Old Republic game figures at Celebration VI.

Lego Rancor Pit
Rancor Pit

Wednesday Lego put out a pre-San Diego Comic-Con press release and announced a new Star Wars Rancor Pit set coming in 2013. While the pre-view was set for Saturday, a picture leaked early on their ow.ly picture feed yesterday.

The set shown includes the Rancor along with minifigures of Luke Skywalker, Malakili and a Gamorrean Guard. It even appears that the set may allow you to stack the upcoming Jabba’s Palace on top of it making a really fun play environment. We expect more details, including the set number and price, on Saturday.

San Diego Comic-Con – Sideshow

We thought we had a good idea of what Sideshow would debut at Comic-Con but they still had a few surprises for us.

1:6

Darth Malgus was probably the biggest. Sideshow gave us a look at a Premium Format version back on the 1st, but pulled a fast one and also debuted a 1:6 scale figure last night.

The new Darth Vader from Return of the Jedi is also on hand

Mythos

Darth Maul and Obi-Wan Kenobi have both been shown previously, but we’d only seen artwork of Darth Vader, Boba Fett and Lomrokk until now. And we’re blown away with this line of statues.

Darth Vader and Boba Fett both feature extremely dynamic poses while Lomrokk looks totally badass with his huge axe. But, we have to go with Darth Vader as the winner of this line so far. If you’re looking for something a little different but still want a signature piece for a collection, this Vader would probably be it.

Premium Format

Some of the Premium Format statues have already been up for pre-order, like R2-D2 and C-3PO, Captain Rex and Aayla Secura, but Sideshow also has the new Darth Malgus and a Force Unleashed version of Shaak Ti in the booth.

After missing out on the Darth Talon, we’re seriously considering the Shaak Ti.

Life-Size

Sideshow’s new Jango Fett bust has been up for sale for a couple of days but SDCC attendees get a first look at the real thing in person this weekend.

Not be outdone by his dad, the Boba Fett life-size statue is also on display along with his bounty, Han Solo frozen in carbonite.
