Kotobukiya has come a long way from the early vinyl model kits they started with, now producing some of the more interesting statue collectibles of the Star Wars property.  But they also have a huge presence in the Marvel and DC Comics field and are no strangers to video game properties.

At Toy Fair they teased a new General Grievous ARTFX+ Statue that could possibly be the best version of him since Sideshow’s incredible Premium Format statue.  The detail looks really good on the prototype they showed, and with paint and final details, could be a home run.

Also on display was their new Jango Fett statue and his son, Boba.  Darth Vader, the Royal Guards and a contingent of Stormtroopers joined them.

Kotobukiya’s first Bishoujo Star Wars statue is out now, Jaina Solo, and Mara Jade is next on their list.  During Joe’s Q&A with Koto, they mentioned Leia was next on their list but not exactly what version, only that it won’t be her Return of the Jedi bikini.

Also, if you’ve seen their excellent Han in Carbonite business card holder, good news, it should be coming to the U.S. market.

Comics and game fans take note, Koto was showing off a prototype for a Kitty Pryde Bishoujo statue, coming in June, and artwork for Black Canary, due in the 3rd quarter.

Last week was the release of the new Visceral Games and Electronic Arts game, “Dead Space 3,” and Kotobukiya will soon have a statue available of the main character, Isaac Clarke.  The 12″ tall statue features lights and will be out in June.

Hasbro’s presentation is in progress now and we’ll be adding information to what we already know as it becomes available.  Refresh the page to see new updates.

A Look Ahead

Q&A

Now that the presentation is over, we have a few answers to questions that we posed to Hasbro’s Jeff Labovitz.

On the Naboo Starfighter; there are no plans to bring this to the U.S.  Hasbro advised that if you have the chance to buy it, get it.

There are no plans to re-release Bastila Shan again.  There may be some in the pipeline somewhere, but that’s it.  There’s no indication that she and her case-mates (Ponda Baba and Echo Base Trooper) will be showing up at stores like Five Below either.

The “fan favorite” Vintage Collection figures that are coming to stores in the first part of the year have been picked by Hasbro, they aren’t straight cases released from a warehouse.  That means that, while we speculated earlier, Darth Malgus would be among those figures released, he may not be.

Details

The Black Series 6″ Boba Fett and Han in Carbonite that will be released at San Diego Comic-Con will be exclusive to that event.  Boba Fett will be released, unchanged, to retail but you’ll need the exclusive if you want Han Solo.

If you haven’t had a chance to read it, head over and check it out. The highlight, an video of Hasbro’s new MTT vehicle. Big E presents: Hasbro Toy Fair 2012!

Toy Fair 2012 Spider-Man

We uploaded the final two Flickr sets from Saturday’s Hasbro Fan Media Day; Spider-Man and Marvel Universe.

Hasbro showed off a lot of new Spider-Man toys for the upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man movie, including the new Lizard. We kind of liked the Web-Shooting Spider-Man figure. He’s about 12″ tall and slings his “webs” from both hands.

On the Marvel Universe set we were happy to hear that Rogue was finally getting her turn in the new line. She was in Hasbro’s slideshow presentation but not in the booth that we saw. Still, there were still some nice figures like Puck and Scarlet Witch. And we’ll be seeing a lot of the Future Foundation Spider-Man this year as he’s coming in both the Legends and Universe lines.

2012 Toy Fair LogoThis is a Star Wars website so it’s about time we got to the Star Wars news. We now have our photos posted along with some information that we were able to pick up from the Hasbro staff on site. There is some interesting stuff coming this year, including AMP’D which looks like a fun line for kids.

We’re even impressed with this year’s San Diego Comic-Con exclusive which will probably be a bear to get again. Head over to our Star Wars Toy Fair coverage page to check out all the information and photos. We still have more info to post that we’ll get to later.

Marvel Legends
Marvel Legends

Hasbro is bringing back Marvel Legends in a big way. The Build-a-Figure feature is back with Terrax and Arnim Zola, who also has a variant. Legends was always famous for variant chase figures and they’re back also. Many of the figures in the first couple of waves will have chase figures.

Also announced for 2013 will be the first Hyperion figure in Legends scale. Several Avengers characters, and Ghost Rider, will be in the early waves since they have films coming out this year. One of the best looking figures, in our opinion, was Hope Summers, who also makes her first figure appearance as an adult. Photos are up now.

The Avengers Helicarrier
The Avengers Helicarrier

Everyone knows that the Avengers hits theaters this year and Hasbro has plans to really celebrate. There will be action figures (hitting stores now) of all the main heroes and villains as well as some cool vehicles and plenty of role play toys.

The main line, 3.75″ figures, also gives us the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier which is over 3 feet long. Releasing this fall, the Helicarrier will be $69.99. Another iconic vehicle will be the Quinjet. While the Quinjet will fit action figures inside, it also has an external holder so Iron Man can “fly” alongsid the ship.

Hulk Hands are back, along with plenty of other role play toys. From masks to Captain America’s shield to Thor’s hammer, Avengers really lends itself to this type of play.

Head over to Flickr to see the photos. We’ll have more from Marvel later.

Battleship
Battleship

Hasbro has more than just G.I. Joe coming to theaters this year, they also have Battleship. Based on the game of the same name, the movie opens on May 18th and is about the military fighting an alien invasion.

Hasbro is releasing 8 KRE-O sets that include KREON figures of both the military and alien invaders. The sets range from tanks to helicopters to the battleships themselves, both human and alien.

Another cool feature is a new electronic version of the classic board game. The new Battleship allows you to play as either the Navy or as the alien invaders. We didn’t get a good photo of it, but the display area for Battleship was really cool, it looked like a ship’s bridge. Check out the photos of the toys which will be available in May.

Hasbro spent a lot of time during the presentation showing off new Prime merchandise (and a season 2 trailer), Fall of Cybertron toys and video and a new scale for the Cyberverse line called Maximus. It was busy around the toys in the showroom but we were able to snap a few pictures.
